Fix Misaligned Crosshair After Flashbang in CS 1.6

A common misaligned crosshair bug in Counter-Strike 1.6 causes your crosshair to drift or become misaligned after you are blinded by a flashbang. This visual glitch can ruin your aim for the rest of the round. Here is how to fix it immediately.

Quick Misaligned Crosshair Fix

The most reliable way to reset the crosshair alignment without restarting the game is a quick video setting refresh. This works for both Steam and Non-Steam versions of the game.

1. Press Esc to open the menu.
2. Go to Options -> Video.
3. Change the Resolution to any other setting and click Apply.
4. Change it back to your original resolution and click Apply again.

This forces the engine to redraw the HUD and the crosshair, placing it back in the center of your screen.

Using Console Commands

If you want to avoid menu navigation, you can try toggling certain HUD elements via the console (usually the ~ key):

• Type hud_draw 0 and press Enter.
• Type hud_draw 1 and press Enter.

Note: This does not work on all servers or versions, but it is the fastest method to try mid-round.

Permanent Solutions

To prevent the crosshair from bugging out in the future, check these settings based on your game version:

• Run in OpenGL Mode: Most HUD and crosshair glitches happen in “Software” or “D3D” modes. Ensure your Video settings are set to OpenGL.
• Disable “Wait for Vertical Sync”: In your Video options, unchecking V-Sync can reduce engine-related visual bugs.
• Launch Options (Steam): Right-click CS 1.6 in Steam, go to Properties -> General -> Launch Options, and ensure you aren’t forcing an unsupported refresh rate with commands like -freq.
• Desktop Shortcut (Non-Steam): If you are using a Non-Steam version, right-click your CS 1.6 desktop shortcut, go to Properties, and check the “Target” field for any forced resolution or refresh rate commands that might be causing the glitch.
