What is DeathRun in Counter-Strike 1.6

DeathRun in cs 1.6 is a server mod where one player (the terrorist) controls traps while the remaining players (the runners) try to reach the end of the course without dying. The maps require precise movement, air strafing, and timing. The terrorist activates traps using buttons or levers placed throughout the map to eliminate runners before they reach the finish. CS 1.6 DeathRun maps are specifically designed for this format – they do not work as standard competitive maps.

How to Install DeathRun Maps on Your CS 1.6 Server

1. Download the 11deathRunMapPack.zip file using the link above
2. Extract the archive – you will see folders: gfx, maps, models, sound, sprites, and .wad files
3. Copy all folders directly into your cstrike/ directory:
   • Steam: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life\cstrike\
   • Non-Steam: open your game installation folder and find the cstrike\ directory
4. If prompted to merge folders – confirm. This adds the new files without overwriting your existing game files
5. Start Counter-Strike 1.6, open console with ~, and type map deathrun_aside2 to test

Important – WAD files must be in the right place

The most common issue with cs 1.6 DeathRun map installation is missing WAD files. This pack includes boobz.wad and deathrun_bleak.wad which must be placed directly in the cstrike/ folder – not inside a subfolder. If textures appear as black and purple checkerboard on any map, the WAD file for that map is in the wrong location.
