Custom gloves in CS 1.6 are arm model replacements – they replace the default hand/glove model visible when holding weapons. The game does not have a dedicated glove slot like CS:GO – gloves in CS 1.6 are part of the weapon hand model files. Installation is straightforward: download a model, place it in the correct folder. If your installation is corrupted, download Counter-Strike 1.6 first.

How CS 1.6 Gloves Work

In CS 1.6, gloves are part of the weapon view model – the arm and hand visible when holding a weapon. Each weapon has its own hand model file stored in cstrike/models/. Replacing these files changes the gloves visible when using that weapon.

There are two types of CS 1.6 glove mods:

Type What It Replaces Visible To
Per-weapon glove model The hand/arm in a specific weapon’s view model (e.g. v_ak47.mdl) Only you – client-side change
Player arm model The arm model used across all weapons (models/player/arms) Only you – client-side change

Gloves are client-side only – other players do not see your custom gloves. They are purely cosmetic and have no gameplay impact.

Where to Download CS 1.6 Custom Gloves

GameBanana is the main source for CS 1.6 arm and glove models:

When downloading, check the mod page for:

  • Which weapons the gloves apply to (some replace all weapons, some only specific ones)
  • Whether the model causes consistency errors on VAC servers (see below)
  • The correct installation path listed by the mod author

Install CS 1.6 Custom Gloves

  1. Download the glove mod from GameBanana – it comes as a ZIP or RAR archive.
  2. Extract the archive.
  3. Inside you will find .mdl files – these are the model files.
  4. Copy the .mdl files to the correct folder in your CS 1.6 installation:
File Type Destination Folder
View model gloves (v_*.mdl) cstrike/models/
Player arm model cstrike/models/player/
Texture files (.bmp, .tga) Same folder as the .mdl file

Your cstrike folder location:

  • Steam: Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life\cstrike\
  • Non-Steam: Counter-Strike 1.6\cstrike\
  1. Launch CS 1.6. The new gloves appear immediately when holding any weapon the model applies to.

If the mod includes multiple files for different weapons (v_ak47.mdl, v_m4a1.mdl etc.) – copy all of them. Each file only affects the weapon it is named for.

Consistency Error Fix

Some CS 1.6 servers have consistency checking enabled – they verify that your game files match the server’s files. If you join a server with custom gloves installed and the server checks weapon models, you may get kicked with a consistency error:

“DENIED – file ‘models/v_ak47.mdl’ is different on the server”

This means the server does not allow modified weapon models. Options:

  • Join a different server – most public servers do not enable consistency checking on weapon view models
  • Temporarily revert – restore the original model file before joining that server
  • Keep backups – before replacing any model file, rename the original to v_ak47_original.mdl so you can restore it

Arm models (not weapon-specific) rarely cause consistency errors because servers typically only check weapon models, not the generic arm model.

Revert to Default CS 1.6 Gloves

To restore the original default gloves:

If you kept backups

Rename your backup file back to the original name (e.g. v_ak47_original.mdlv_ak47.mdl) and overwrite the custom model.

Steam users

  1. Steam Library → right-click CS 1.6 → Properties → Local Files.
  2. Click Verify integrity of game files.
  3. Steam replaces all modified files with originals.

Non-Steam users

Delete the modified .mdl files from cstrike/models/. CS 1.6 will use fallback models. To fully restore, download Counter-Strike 1.6 fresh.
