What CS 1.6 CSGO Edition changes

This is a weapon and sound reskin of Counter-Strike 1.6, not a new game. The weapon models – rifles,
pistols, the knife – are replaced with CS:GO-style weapon skins, the gunshots and reload sounds are
swapped for CS:GO weapon sounds, and the main menu background is different when you launch the game.
Everything else stays exactly the same CS 1.6 engine (GoldSrc): the classic maps like de_dust2
and de_inferno, hit registration, bots, the server browser, and movement all play out the
same way they always have.

This is not Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and doesn’t turn CS 1.6 into it – there’s no matchmaking,
no ranks, and no Source engine. It’s still CS 1.6 underneath, with CS:GO weapon skins and CS:GO weapon
sounds layered on top, similar in spirit to the CS:GO skin packs and weapon sound mods players have built
for CS 1.6 for years, just packaged as one ready-to-install download instead of separate files to add by hand.
That’s also why it’s often called the CS 1.6 GO Edition or CS 1.6 Global Offensive Edition – the “GO” in
the name refers to the look and sound of the weapons, not the actual Global Offensive game.

without switching games: the same maps, the same bots, the same LAN and online play, just with CS:GO

weapons look and sound but want to keep playing on older or lower-spec PCs, since CS 1.6 Global Offensive
Edition is still built on the lightweight CS 1.6 engine rather than a modern game engine.

Installing CS 1.6 CSGO Edition
